Self-Proclaimed 'Sanhedrin'

2007.08.21, 0810 Yᵊru•shâ•layim Time – Self-Proclaimed "Sanhedrin"— is not a "developing Sanhedrin" – or any other kind of Sanhedrin. çá"ã has hundreds of rabbis but they don't call themselves a Sanhedrin because they don't represent the entirety, or even a representative cross-section, of the Orthodox Jewish community. The Orthodox Union has hundreds of rabbis and they don't call themselves a Sanhedrin because they don't represent the entirety of the Orthodox Jewish community. There are about a half-dozen similar sects that are major elements of the Orthodox Jewish community, but none claims to be a Sanhedrin.

This newly organized sect is exactly that: another sect of Orthodoxy. They managed to put together 70 rabbis, almost all of whom are fringe rabbis representing only fringe groups (not a representative cross-section of the Orthodox world) but, instead of calling themselves "New Generation Orthodox" or some other realistic sectarian name, they presumptuously, and foolishly, decided to proclaim their new sect a Sanhedrin. That doesn't make it so. With only one exception, none have any great stature throughout the general Orthodox Jewish community, not one has any great stature with the Nᵊtzâr•im, and the one exception of great stature (in the past, no longer) in most of the Orthodox Jewish community is generally thought to be senile or somehow "lost it." There are no major sects of the Orthodox Jewish community who accept this sect as authoritative. The idea that they call themselves a Sanhedrin, developing or otherwise, while representing nothing in the general Orthodox community outside of themselves, is nothing short of laughable delusions of grandeur. The only ones excited about it are the goy•im (particularly Christians), who don't know any better, and a few fanatics who want to return Israel's focus to a physical "Temple," vulnerable to destruction by enemies again, with a return to the primitive rituals of animal sacrifices. The latter are regarded as "fringe loonies" by the great majority of the Orthodox Jewish community, are supported in principle (and probably financially as well) primarily by Christians who see this as a sign of the return of Yesh"u, and should be ignored.

Further, notwithstanding being a section of Ta•lᵊmud, "Συνεδριον" is a Hellenist term, an anglicization of the Greek.

In the absence of an authority like Mosh•ëh, and there exists no such authority today – nor can there even exist such an authority today — a Beit Din -Jâ•dol could only possibly be proposed by the Bât•ei-Din of no less than every major sect of the Orthodox Jewish community designating an emissary to represent them. Even if all of that occurred, there is not one major sect of the Orthodox Jewish community willing to recognize and subordinate themselves to the authority of their rivals. Short of a revolution in the Orthodox Jewish community, there is not even the possibility of developing a Beit Din -Jâ•dol.

Even if there were such a revolution in the Orthodox Jewish community, neither is a Beit Din -Jâ•dol in our prophesied future. In its place, Yi•sᵊr•â•eil is prophesied to become an entire nation of ko•han•im. That's incompatible with authority concentrated in a Beit Din -Jâ•dol

If you want to keep a pulse on this issue, learn what the major sects of today's Orthodox Jewish community are, who is considered the top rabbi in each sect and keep track of how many participate in this "Sanhedrin." Right now, that number is zero – and not expected to rise.

Rather than imposition of a fringe radical "Sanhedrin," which virtually none of the Orthodox Jewish community is ever going to tolerate, it is far more likely that a consensus will continue to blossom from the moderate majority of those Yᵊhud•im Yi•sᵊr•â•eil•im who love úÌåÉøÈä from a rational and logical perspective while rejecting rabbinic excesses – and the Nᵊtzâr•im, not some self-appointed "Sanhedrin," are the origin, first advocate and at the absolute center of that effort.
