Mi•shᵊpât•im 3rd Eve

“So these are the Mi•shᵊpât•im:”

(Amalgamated Tribal Laws/Tza•diq•ūt)

Nonpareil Quintessence of é‑‑ä

B.C.E. 1st century — Rabi Hi•leil, when asked by a gentile to be converted while the Rabi stood on one foot, replied: "That which you eschew, don’t inflict on your fellow! That's the entirety of Tōr•âh. What remains is pei•rush•âh. Now, go-weave your lifetime-learning-practice.”

In your land, there shall be no [more Egyptian-enforced] abortions nor barrenness; I will fill-up your [sons'] normal number of days.

I will cause My Forebodings to precede you and make My sound with all of the am by whom you come. Then I will give you the backs-of-the-necks of all of your enemies. I'll send the hornet ahead of you and chase-off the Khiv•i, the Kᵊna•an•i and the Khit•i from before you.

I won't chase them all out in one year lest the land be neglected and the feral animals of the field take over. I'll chase them out little by little until you're able to make the land productive and inherit it.

So, I will set your border, [first] from Yâm Suph to Yâm Pᵊli•shᵊt•in, then from the mi•dᵊbâr to ha-Nᵊhar [Ya•rᵊd•ein]. Because I will give the squatters of the land into your hand and chase him out from before you.

You may not cut a bᵊrit with them nor with their ël•oh•im. They may not settle in your land lest they cause you to commit a kheit against Me in serving their ël•oh•im. That would be a snare for you.

Optional parental preparation:

  1. What is the Levant?

Questions you might anticipate that your child might raise and be prepared to discuss:

  1. What does "feral" mean?

  2. What are squatters? (When Israel moved to Mi•tzᵊrayim because of a famine, and then lingered there until the Egyptians imposed corvée on them, the remaining Kᵊna•an•im and Arabs squatted on the land that continued to be owned by the heirs of Ya•a•qōv.)

  3. What is a snare?

  4. What does "foreboding" mean?

  5. What is a bivouac?

  6. What's a hornet?
