Todah for the detailed explanation of ki•pur′ and the role of the qor•bân. It's nice to know that ki•pur′ is from Hashem, and not from magical powers in the dâm as C*hristianity describes. They make it seem like "G-d" needed the qor•bân′; he needed the dâm to be spilt, out of some twisted kind of grotesque satisfaction, lehavdil!

But the website reads:

"It wasn't the killing of the animal that brought ki•pur′. It was seeing the lifeblood drain from the innocent victim (and, no doubt, in a society in which personal wealth was measured by one's flock, watching a significant portion of one's personal wealth go with it) that triggered tәshuv•âh′—and the resulting tәshuv•âh′ made ki•pur′."

So if I'm following this correctly, Hashem himself didn't need the dâm spilt for some reason, but rather needed the offender to see it and realize the gravity of their aveirah?

That makes infinitely more sense that C*hristianity's unsavory rendering!!!

Todah!

Rainbow Rule

Excellent observation.

Note, too, that we live in a time when meat for dinner is in a sealed package an aisle or two from the vegetables, fruits, produce, canned foods and bottled beverages – just another package of food that no one thinks about any more than they think about the sweat it takes to reap vegetables and fruits or bottle juices or truck the products to market.

No one associates their dinner meat with the butchering of the animal, or the shedding of its blood, that brought that package to the grocery store.

Worse, when they see a sho•kheit sanctify the animal with a bᵊrâkh•âh and treat it gently and respectfully, as holy, when killing it as mercifully as possible, many modern goy•im are angered at having the necessary killing, in order to eat meat, brought to their attention. Horrified at what they still never give a thought to relative to their own dinners – that come in a sealed package, they condemn shᵊkhit•âh. Sanctimoniously, at the same time, they willfully ignore their own, cruel and brutal, butchering houses that are infinitely more savage and abusive to animals.

Society has lost their connection of respect and sanctity for the animals they eat. It is that connection, respect, reverence and sanctity of life that we see in Yi•sᵊrâ•eil of the Bible.

The Mi•zᵊbeiakh was a giant BBQ grill and the resulting feasts were celebrations of tᵊshuv•âh and ki•pur.

But the poignant point of the penalties imposed for committing offenses against Tor•âh and the resulting sacrifices and commitments involved had been made and punctuated as effectively as the subsequent feast celebrating their restart with a clean slate.

Food for thought.
